Thirteen energy-efficient Hyundai Rotem trams already in Warsaw

13 Hyundai Rotem trams have already been delivered to Warsaw. The first two successfully passed all tests and became the property of Tramwaje Warszawskie. More Hyundai trams will join them in the days and weeks to come − after the acceptance process is completed. There are also more vehicles on the way from South Korea, including the first 24-meter tram. All of them have been equipped with Medcom power electronic devices.

The trams, which have already been approved for traffic, carry passengers on two lines, and at the same time are used for training drivers. In the future, they will support, among others a new tram line to Wilanów. By the end of April 2023, a total of 123 trams of the Korean manufacturer will be delivered to Warsaw (85 two-way, 18 one-way with a length of 33 meters, and 20 one-way with a length of 24 meters). It is the largest contract for the purchase of tram rolling stock in the history of our country and one of the largest orders on a European scale.

About 60% of components used in Hyundai Rotem vehicles come from Poland and the European Union. Including a complete drive system designed by our company, as well as a system that recovers and stores energy generated during braking. All power electronics devices have been constructed in the silicon carbide (SiC) technology, which allowed to achieve extremely high energy efficiency rates. As detailed tests have shown, the new trams consume almost 30% less energy in everyday traffic than the vehicles used so far by the Warsaw operator. Moreover, to carry one passenger over a distance of 1 km, they only need 15 Wh of energy − twice less than many electric passenger cars available on the automotive market.

In addition to the drive and the energy recovery and storage system, our engineers also designed the TCMS control system. All Medcom deliveries have already been completed.
